Ingemar Åström, Service Engineer

Hi Ingemar. Could you tell us what you do on a day-to-day basis?
I work as a Service Engineer based at the Sundsvall/Timrå Airport in central Sweden. My role involves providing service and support for part of the Swedish national emergency services communications system – RAKEL. I also work with other emergency communication systems, for example, for the Swedish Maritime Administration coastal radio network.
What do you enjoy most in your job?
I feel my colleagues and I play an important role in society by ensuring the reliability of essential emergency communications networks – sometimes in life or death situations. I also enjoy the problem-solving aspects of my job as we often have unexpected challenges to overcome.
How is Eltel as an employer?
Eltel is a good employer with broad technical expertise in the field of radio technology. We have a good team of experts that work together well and are there to support each other when needed.
Can you tell us what you are working on now?
I am currently working on upgrading the IRIDIUM satellite communications system that we have installed for remote emergency telephones in the Swedish mountains. The upgrade will further improve audibility.
What are your future hopes?
I hope to continue my work with emergency communication networks. There is still great potential to improve emergency communications in isolated communities around Sweden.
