Eltel to the rescue after Ireland's storm crisis

When a powerful storm caused widespread power outages across Ireland, the nation’s power grid operator ESB Networks urgently sought support from across Europe. With the damage so extensive that foreign workforce was more than needed, Eltel Finland received a call for help and 38 skilled Eltel technicians quickly mobilized to help restore the grid.

The storm had left large parts of Ireland without power, and ESBN reached out to multiple countries across Europe for help. Eltel was one of the first companies to answer the call, assembling a highly skilled team of 38 volunteers to travel to Ireland. Under the leadership of Jussi Jokinen, the technicians worked around the clock to resolve the challenges and bring stability back to Ireland’s power network.

Logistical challenges

One of the biggest hurdles Eltel faced was the logistical challenge of coordinating the movement of personnel and equipment to Ireland in such a short timeframe. However, thanks to Eltel Finland’s swift and efficient response, the team was quickly mobilized – and in just three days the team had landed in Dublin. “The hardest part was definitely the logistics,” says Jussi. "Coordinating 38 people and their equipment under tight timelines was no small task, but the teams quick action and planning made all the difference."

Jussi and his team worked to streamline operations, ensuring that the restoration process was as efficient as possible. With careful planning and coordinating with local professionals from ESB, the team was able to restore the power to thousands of homes and businesses, minimizing disruption and bringing critical services back online.

Acting fast and efficient

Eltel’s ability to act fast and efficiently is a testament to the strength of the team and the company’s broader capabilities. From the logistics team who organized the deployment, to the workforce on the ground working tirelessly, every part of the operation was executed with the same precision and competence as it would have been  in Finland.

Looking back at the experience, Jussi expresses pride in the team’s efforts and remains focused on the collaborative nature of the mission. "This was truly a team effort. We were able to achieve something significant because of everyone’s hard work and dedication," he says.
